Avulsed Tooth (Tooth Knocked Out)?
In order to ensure the best possible chance of saving a tooth that’s been avulsed it’s important that you do all you can to keep the tooth clean and moist and get to a dentist as fast as possible. Take the following steps:
- 1) Pick up the tooth by the crown (the top) and rinse it with warm water.
DO NOT touch the root of the tooth. DO NOT scrub the tooth or attempt to clean it with soap or chemicals. DO NOT wrap the tooth up in a tissue or a cloth.
- 2) Put the tooth back in the socket if possible. If it cannot be secured there, then hold it inside your mouth on the inside of your cheek or keep it in milk or in a glass of saliva. Water is not recommended but can be used as a last resort.
- 3) Get to the dentist safely and promptly.
